Derek is the founder of The King Group. He has been an Investment Advisor for 35 years, 20 of those years have been at BMO Nesbitt Burns. Prior to that, he spent 4 years at Carleton University graduating with a B.A. in Economics in 1985. He holds designations as Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (F.C.S.I.) a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and a Certified Investment Manager (CIM). He is currently pursuing his Portfolio Manager (PM) designation.

Derek grew up in the west end of Ottawa where he met Carole at Sir Robert Borden High School. They have 3 grown daughters Courtney, Bailey and Chloe. In their spare time, Derek and Carole enjoy travelling and cottage life. Derek is an avid biker and occasionally plays golf and hockey.
