My Background
Ian provides discretionary investment management services for clients at BMO Private Banking. He has built a successful business, serving affluent and ultra-high net worth individuals and families, as well as corporations and institutions. Previous to joining our Island BMO Private Banking team, Ian worked as an Equity Analyst and Portfolio Manager at a boutique investment firm. While there, in addition to managing client relationships, he covered Canadian Energy, Industrial and Consumer sectors — providing research and buy-sell recommendations for the firm’s clients. Ian has worked on both the "buy-side" and "sell-side" of the street, giving him unique perspective and experience when it comes to helping his clients manage their wealth. Ian holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) degree from the University of Calgary and has been a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) Charter-holder since 2006. The CFA charter is a globally respected, graduate-level investment credential established in 1962 and awarded by CFA Institute — the largest global association of investment professionals. The CFA charter is the gold-standard for investment management professionals, requiring extensive study and demonstrated mastery of the advanced skills needed for investment analysis and decision making in today’s quickly evolving global financial industry. Additionally, Charter-holders adhere to the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct which requires them to always place clients’ interests ahead of their own, maintain independence and objectivity, act with integrity, maintain and improve their professional competence, and disclose conflicts of interest. To learn more about the CFA charter, visit www.cfainstitute.org. When not at the office, Ian enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. An avid cyclist, runner, and hiker, Ian has traveled tens of thousands of miles on Vancouver Island’s roads and trails. Ian is active in the community, volunteering each year with the BC Thanksgiving Food Drive.Get directions
